1971
Local hospitals now offering open heart surgeries meant that more blood needed to be on hand at the laboratory calling for an expansion of space in the blood bank.
1975
The American Association of Blood Banks made the decision not to pay donors for blood in hopes of minimizing the risk of transmitting disease by transfusion.
1976
Dr. Luis Galup was selected as the Director of the Foundation, replacing Dr. Jene Bennett. His duties as a pathologist would come with the responsibility of overseeing the Foundation's 200 employees.
1979
Plans were announced for another expansion which would be completed in 1980. Plans included two additional floors and a basement at the rear of the existing building totaling 33,000 feet and additional parking which would mean moving or demolishing four area homes. Plans also called for the possibility of two additional floors.
Blood Donors had hit a record 12,675 units of blood hitting an increase in donated units by 16% over the previous year.
