Ryan Foster

It's a great place to work, the employees and co-workers are great and I think the Foundation really has the best interest of the employees in mind.

Ryan Foster

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina displayed Mother Nature's volatile side as it wreaked havoc down the coastline, Ryan Foster graduated college in Mobile, Alabama.

Ryan knew that his Bachelor's Degree in Science and his completion of the Cytotechnology program would help him find a career, but he also knew that jobs were scarce in the Southwestern Region of the United States.

He discovered a job opening at South Bend Medical Foundation for a Cytotechnologist and applied. Ryan has been with the Foundation now for over 4 years working daily rotations where he screens for cancerous cells.

Screening pap smears is his primary task, but he also assists in biopsy collections at area hospitals. He has noticed that HPV tests have increased as women have become more aware of the risks and the importance of early detection.

While HPV is one of the items Ryan screens for when he looks at slides, he also is searching for pre-cancerous lesions, cervical cancer, infectious disease, STDs, and any cells that look abnormal.
