    Clot 30 minutes
    Promptly centrifuge 15 minutes
Immediately transfer serum to separate plastic tube and freeze
  • Spec Store Transport:
    Frozen
  • Spec Stability:
    After separation from cells:
    4 hours room temperature (20-30°C)
    3 days refrigerated (2-8°C)
2 years frozen (-20°C) – Do not use frost-free units that undergo repeated freeze/thaw cycles
  • Spec Reject:
    Grossly hemolyzed specimen
  • Methodology:
    Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
    Equilibrium Dialysis
  • Clinical Significance:
Much of Estradiol is bound to proteins. The unbound portion and Estradiol bound to proteins with low affinity reflect the Free concentration. The Free Estradiol may better correlate with medical conditions than the Total Estradiol concentrations.
