Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA) [Moderate Complexity]
Gas Chromatography (GC) [High Complexity]
Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) [High Complexity]
Color Spot Tests [Moderate Complexity] - Use:
Detect drug use
Evaluate toxicity - Clinical Significance:
Drugs or drug metabolites may be detected by a variety of techniques. This procedure utilizes the techniques of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), Gas Chromatography (GC), Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA), and color spot tests. The lower limit of detection for most drugs detectable by the procedure ranges from 0.5 to 2.0 mcg/mL. The EIA test is generally more sensitive and may have lower limits of detection. EIA results may be reported as being positive for a drug class, since the EIA technique does not necessarily identify a specific drug (e.g., Opiates). This procedure can detect most drugs of abuse, many prescription drugs, and many over-the-counter medications. Not all drugs are detectable by this procedure. In particular, it should be noted that LSD, insulin, vitamins, and most antibiotics are not detectable by this procedure. This drug test does not utilize forensic procedures. It is intended for medical purposes. - Reference Range:
