    Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)
  • Use:
Detection of IgA antibodies to tissue transglutaminase (endomysium) is an aid in diagnosis of certain gluten sensitive enteropathies such as celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis
  • Clinical Significance:
Celiac disease is a life-long condition in which ingestion of gluten leads to chronic inflammation and damage of the small intestinal mucosa. Tissue transglutaminase has been identified as the major autoantigen in celiac disease. IgA antibodies against tTG are highly disease specific serological markers for celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis.
  • Reference Range:
    0.0-7.0 U/mL

    Interpretive Data:

    < 7.0
    7.0 - 10.0
    > 10.0
    U/mL = Negative
    U/mL = Equivocal
    U/mL = Positive

  • Additional Test Info:
NOTE: A negative tTG IgA Antibody result in an untreated patient does not rule out gluten-sensitive enteropathy. This finding can often be explained by selective IgA deficiency, a relatively frequent finding in celiac disease.
