At least 12.0 mL urine for urinalysis - plus - sufficient urine for culture - Fasting:
No - Spec Collect:
Standard procedure for catheterized urine - Spec Process:
Urinalysis Specimen:
– If a portion of urine has been transferred to a urine C&S transport tube for possible culture (see below), the urine for routine urinalysis can be maintained room temperature for up to 2 hours
– If a portion of urine has not been transferred to a urine C&S transport tube, the urine for routine urinalysis and possible culture must be refrigerated within 20 minutes of collection
– Urinalysis only specimens can remain refrigerated for up to 12 hours
Urine Culture Specimen, High Volume (3.0-5.0 mL):
– Immediately after collection, transfer well-mixed urine from bottom of sterile container into gray-top urine transport tube (with preservative)
– Shake tube vigorously
– Urine culture specimens transferred to urine transport tube can remain room temperature for up to 24 hours
– Specimens in “Urine C&S Transport Kit” can also be refrigerated
– Urine culture specimens can be refrigerated for up to 12 hours - Spec Store Transport:

Urinalysis Specimen:
– NOT refrigerated within 2 hours of collection
– Refrigerated within 2 hours of collection, but NOT received for testing within 12 hours of collection
Urine Culture Specimen:
– HIGH VOLUME specimens transferred to a “Urine C&S Transport Kit”, but NOT received for testing within 24 hours of collection
– LOW VOLUME specimens collected in a sterile, plastic container, but NOT refrigerated within 20 minutes of collection
– LOW VOLUME specimens collected in a sterile, plastic container and refrigerated within 20 minutes of collection, but NOT received for testing within 12 hours of collection - Spec Remarks:
