  • Methodology:
    Flow Cytometry
  • Use:
Used to characterize some forms of immunodeficiency and autoimmune diseases
  • Clinical Significance:
Total T- and B-lymphocyte percentages may be used to characterize some forms of immunodeficiency and autoimmune diseases. When monoclonal antibody reagents are added to human whole blood, the flourochrome-labeled antibodies bind specifically to antigens on the surface of leukocytes. Using the CD45 antigen and side scatter, cells can be grouped and the cells of interest isolated for analysis. This method is superior to two-color methodology in that the lymphocyte gate and recovery are both assumed to be 100%.
