Hemolyzed or non-citrate anticoagulated sample
Refrigerated or frozen sample
Sample greater than 4 hours old - Methodology:
Dade PFA-100 - determination of closure time (CT) - Use:
Detect platelet dysfunction induced by intrinsic platelet defects - Clinical Significance:
Platelet plug formation in the PFA-100 system is affected by low platelet counts and/or activity, inadequate plasma vonWillebrand factor status, and by low hematocrits because of the flow process. Patients with platelet dysfunction related to uremia, von Willebrand’s disease, and exposure to agents such as aspirin or other anti-platelet drugs will exhibit long closure times.
INTERPRETATION:
When COL/EPI is elevated and COL/ADP is normal, the elevated COL/EPI result is likely caused by aspirin or aspirin-like substance ingestion.
When COL/EPI is elevated and COL/ADP is elevated, the elevated COL/ADP indicates that aspirin or aspirin-like substance-induced prolonged closure time is unlikely. Evaluate the result in conjunction with clinical history and other laboratory findings. - Reference Range:
The following reference ranges have been established and confirmed using whole blood samples collected in 3.2% buffered sodium citrate:
COL/EPI: 88-198 seconds
COL/ADP: 58-121 seconds - Day Run:
Sun-Sat (daily) - Time Run:
As received - Time Reported:
4 hours - Test Type:
