  • Clinical Significance:
    Nephrotic syndrome is the best-known type of renal failure in which lipids are filtered through the permeable glomerular membrane. Lipiduria, however, also occurs in nonglomerular and polycystic renal diseases and in fat embolism in relation to major bone fractures or trauma.Lipiduria may also be seen in normal subjects following infusion of lipid emulsion in man. Lipid can be observed following extracorporal shockwave lithotripsy in patients with vesical carcinomas and in patients with acute alcoholic intoxication.
