Blood donors get a moo-velous day for Moopie Contest

 

 

Rumbles of thunder started during the morning of the moo-velous moopie party, leaving it a little uncertain as to whether the event would take place. With rain drenching the softball field at St. Joe High School the night before and again in the morning, would the muddy mess hold the painted moopie grid?

It did, and 166 South Bend Medical Foundation blood donors had a chance for their spot to be chosen by the cow. Actually, there were two cows, because herd animals do better in pairs. The cows were released onto the field at 4pm and it wasn’t long before they had chosen a winner.

At 4:25, the moopie was left on square I-2 belonging to a young lady who wasn’t present. Rules stated that donors must be present in order to win. Five minutes came and went and rules stated that without the winner present, the prizes would be awarded to the surrounding top, bottom, left and right squares. Again, not everyone was present and three South Bend Medical Foundation Blood Donors were each awarded a $500 VISA Gift Card.

Meanwhile, B100 was broadcasting live and giving out tickets for their upcoming birthday bash. Chick-Fil-A from South Bend and Mishawaka were on hand passing out coupons to try their spicy chicken sandwich and handing out 350 samples to people at the Moopie event.

And the fun didn’t stop there. Three games were played during the afternoon including the cow fling, the balloon obstacle and the cow pie eating contest. What a moo-velous idea, a hot day and chocolate pies. The rules were that contestants were unable to use their hands to eat the chocolate pies.

The balloon obstacle was a struggle for some, but not the pair that won. They easily shifted down the grass with the balloon held snug between the small of their backs and they were the last team standing.

"We want to thank all of our donors, Chick-Fil-A South Bend and Mishawaka, St Joe High School and Adrienne Mishler for bringing her cows out to the field," said Colleen Hahn, South Bend Medical Foundation Public Relations.

All-in-all it was a very successful day with close to 400 people in attendance, the weather was hot, but dry and the majority of people walked away with door prizes, B100 tickets and the reminder of how important it is to donate blood in the community.

SBMF moves from Mishawaka Medical Arts Building

South Bend Medical Foundation patients who have lab work done at the Mishawaka Medical Arts building on Main Street will be familiarizing themselves with another location.

Although the Mishawaka Medical Arts location closed on Saturday, July 24th, patients will only have to look at the building next door to find our new location.

"This is a great location, with a larger waiting area and we feel like patients will have an easier time parking. It’s right next door to our old building so convenience shouldn’t be compromised with this move," said Laura Broadstreet, Manager of Patient Services.

The new patient services location is 215 West 4th Street in Mishawaka and hours will remain 7:30 – 5pm Monday – Friday and 7:30 – Noon on Saturday.
